essence

Finding the essence, paring down all of the unnecessary details to what matters, that was my goal this time around. I did the sketches below at my favorite Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge to get my juices flowing. Then, back at the studio, I dove in.

Maybe that's the answer, when in doubt, take out what's extraneous, and find the bones.

Evidence of the Virginia Cobb's comb is very cool here.
Richie Havens' music has always been a fave, but watching him string his guitar is mesmerizing.

In my experience, anytime I feel I have found the answer that very feeling changes it into a lifeless tangent. Each answer has it's use among the throng of epiphanies that become our style.

Hi Sam! You know, as soon as I saw that video, I searched through my old arts and crafts supplies and found some combs -- presto chango -- new abstract art making tool!

Hi Kitty! I guess for the curious seeker, each question answered allows new questions to present themselves. Don't you think?
