Anan Bear Observatory. Accessible only by water and hike. We did it, even though I hoped to keep bears at a great distance on this trip. Not on this adventure. Bears up close and personal. Incredible. Frightening. Absolutely amazing.
These were all "black" bears, but some were brown in color. No grizzlies (which are much more aggressive) and they were much more interested in the salmon than me. I tried to look unappetizing.
Loriann -- didn't you have a close encounter with a bear this summer? Yikes!

Wow! How up close and personal??? Beautiful watercolors (which don't show how much your hand was shaking at all).
About 20 feet. Husband had the shotgun.
Dang!
WOW! 20 feet! Were they grizzlies? Love the bear watercolors! You are amazing!
