We started today with several drawing exercises with figures. My final painting today was this development of the sailboat idea. I have several sketches that I want to play with, and that will come soon.
Have you taken a workshop with Dawn Emerson? I have really enjoyed my days with this wonderful pastel artist. Hers has been a workshop that leaves me filled with ideas of new things to try. I know that my drawing will never be the same and I plan to carry this sense of play and exploration with me into the days ahead.

Wow! What a workshop! I've enjoyed these posts--your workshop pieces have attained a wonderful looseness. Come to think of it, I've got to loosen up--maybe that comes from working with concrete. That new sailboat piece is very nice--I really like the figures. You're going to have a blast in the next period--can't wait to see the posts!
Thanks for sharing all of these workshop paintings. They look like daring dreamscapes.
Dawn Emerson is a brilliant artist and enthusiastic, encouraging and talented teacher. I had the good fortune to take a workshop with her a few months ago and I think about her every time I walk into my studio!
William! Thanks for joining me for the experience. I thought of you and your experiments with texture and surface as I was creating my own with Dawn Emerson. Much more ahead. Stay tuned!
Hi Sam! I think that I may have finally connected my music sensibility to my artwork in a true and organic way. Dawn even let me play the piano for the group and introduce an experience. More to come. I am thrilled!
Hi Sarah! It was a great workshop and I am so glad that you recommended it to me. There were some faces you would have recognized from the LaConner workshop group you met in March. I am inspired!
It was great to see you again and experience Dawn's workshop with you. Am still reeling from all the information and exposure to all these possibilities. Definitely will take another workshop with her again in the future. Need time to process first !
Germaine! Thanks for the comment! What a treat to discover you in the class. You're right, so much to absorb and put into practice. We'll both be busy! Please stay in touch and (send images of your work)!
