reading

"How to Grow as an Artist" by Daniel Grant.  This is just one of several art books I brought on this boating adventure.

Although some of the information is dated (the book was published in 2002), I still found many gems inside. It covers a wide variety of subjects that interest most artists, like how to set up a safe working environment, how to present work to a gallery, where to go for art instruction, how to overcome blocks, discussion of materials and suppliers. As I said, some of the particular references to websites and people are no longer valid, the ideas still are.

These websites are new discoveries for me, thanks to the book:

Here is my favorite, a bit of a quote from Wolf Kahn

"...create art that is personal and meaningful."

Special thanks to Jan Heigh who loaned me this book!

Thank you, everyone who came to opening night of "Layered Moments" at Aurora Gallery! Elizabeth Steinbaugh did a beautiful job hanging the show and all of the Women in Abstract Media Artists were at the reception. The show hangs until May 29. Hope you will get over to see it!

come see the show!

this brown/green wall makes some pieces sing!

walking down the staircase to the lounge, you will see this grouping

color, texture, pattern, value, this wall has it in spades

paintings are hung, now we put up the tags!
I am a member of PDX!WAM and today we hung a show of our abstract work. I hope you will come to the Lexus of Portland showroom to see it all.

While we hung the show today, many customers and sales people commented on how much they liked the work and noted how it brightened the room. You can see many of my pieces there, so be sure to stop in! The show will be up until the end of November.
