Palm Springs Art Museum

"Before Missionary School" by John Nieto

When it's 103 degrees, even the rocks seem to melt!
Mom was a great sport today and we drove in her air conditioned car over to the air conditioned Palm Springs Art Museum. We looked at all of the exhibits, including the special exhibit of John Baldassari

The museum has a great collection of western art, including work by Remington, Russell, Moran, and Clyde Aspevig! Love it!!

John Nieto's painting "Before Missionary School" took my breath away. Do you know Nieto?

We have a Spokane area artist who paints in the style of Nieto.

Thanks for the tour - I love PS but haven't gone to the museum.

I've always loved John Nieto's paintings. I think that unlike other commercially successful N.A. artists, he withstands his notoriety and continues to produce fresh and passionate work. To me, he's all about color and wields it like a the force of nature it is.
I'm so glad you made it down to the land of sunshine, good art, AC, and Mom. Soak it all up!

The winds have brought in a change to the weather and it's cooled below 100 degrees. Yay! It's hard for me to fathom this heat, too, Jan. Time with Mom is excellent!

Hi Casey! I love Nieto's style and sense of color and design. Who is the Spokane artist?

Thanks, Sam! You're right about Nieto! His coyote painting (I saw at Ventana in Santa Fe several years ago) knocked me out! Bold and free and wonderful. And all of it very intense and meaningful. Tomorrow I will watch Mom play Bocci ball with her top notch team. My spectator companion will be one of Mom's friends, a delightful 82 year old lady. What fun!
