foundations for castles

20 x 20, charcoal, gouache, pastel on prepared panel

If you built castles
in the air, your work need not be lost;
that is where they should be. Now put
foundations under them.

Youre getting a wonderful intensity to these, Katherine. The black is expanding the gamut of color possibilities, and the result is richness. Thanks for the lesson! Last post too (the sailboat redo), although that was probably more a lesson in saturation. Your work has really matured a lot since Casey's workshop. It seems more focused--more purposeful. Anyway, all the best.

I see sailboats jostling for position on the starting line. I see the tops of tipis waiting for sunrise. I see anticipated possibilities. I see great expression of a great quote.

William: thanks. I think that there is a lot more room for exploration ahead. Nice to see a rich future!

Sam: I've always been a quote collector (since I was in 11th grade and asked for a copy of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations). This one is especially inspiring to me.
