Hydrangeas
oil on BFK
10 x 10

My neighbor brought me a bouquet of lace cap hydrangeas from her yard and I set them up in a little pedestal vase. I still have not stockpiled oil-painting supports (oh, goody, an excuse to browse the art supply stores! hooray!), so I painted this one on Rives BFK paper. It seems like the paper absorbed the oil and dulled the color, so it's probably not the right thing to use.

For now, I am just excited to play with the paint, to mix the color, to hold my brush in different ways, and to have fun. And, I did have fun. Does it show?

I imagine the paper did suck up your oils if you didn't gesso the paper--but yes...it does look like you enjoyed painting this....great shapes and some lively brushwork. I'm tuned in to see what you paint next!

Gesso! Of course. I will do that next time. Thanks, Celeste! It was great seeing you today.

It does indeed show how I wish I had your courage I just cannot get myself to paintanything of any worth at all

Yes, it definately looks like fun!
And thanks to Celeste for the gesso idea. At first I was wondering if it was dry brush water color when looking at the texture.
Looks like new artistic creativity for you !

Hi Kvan,I too thought it was watercolor till I read. ENjoy the long ride.
PS I agree with Celeste, BFK is good...with gesso.

Yes, it looks like you're having fun. There's a lot of movement in this painting. You're great with color! Painting is so difficult for me. I feel much better sticking with words or black and white images.
