These are not pretty thoughts? Its a strong image, though. Its interesting how much a title brings to a painting. Its part of the image communication. My husband mentioned that just yesterday when he did not understand what he was seeing in a painting. "Better put that in the title" was his conclusion!

Thanks for your comment on my last painting. "it's as if you ask "how do you measure the world?" And that is almost precisely what I was thinking about. Yardsticks measure the very local and touchable 3 feet, globes measure out and describe our rock on the solar system. The fact that I have 3 planet Earths in a system of their own on a 3 foot square ground of sticks is an idea that can run on to the end of the universe!! My. The ideas that come to mind in the long hours of mixing colors, bending lines and doing it all again!! I think that's why I like painting so much.

powerful! You look fearful--and not a hint of vanity there.

I am not sure about the not pretty at all. This face makes me wonder what is off page what has caught the eye of the subject. What is going on in the mind I find it facinating and intereting. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Kaylyn -- you're right. Not pretty thoughts. But also, not a pretty self-portrait. Vanity often gets in the way of an honest self-portrait. At least it does for me.

Celeste -- yay! No vanity.

Ralph -- you are right. Plenty in this piece that is not explained. Life can wring you out at times, as you have written about yourself. There is comfort in the company of real people.
